It may seem like I like everything I try…I don’t. It is that I research a lot of the products before I buy them, whether beforehand at home or in the store if I spot something I haven’t seen yet. Today I hit a clearance rack at a local gf store and spotted MI-DEL Chocolate Caramel Bite Size gluten free cookies. Instead of almost $5 a bag, they were $2 and the expiration date hadn’t lapsed. Might be worth a try? I pulled out my iPhone to look up reviews and ratings on them. I realize that places can pay for positive reviews and such but so far it has been fairly accurate for my purposes. Not today. It failed me today. These were listed as 4 stars (although the ratings did span all the way down to a number of ones). I should have paid closer attention to that. Hindsight…
I bought the cookies and didn’t stop myself from cracking open the bag in the car. I just don’t like them. The flavor isn’t horrible, fairly cocoa-y like you’d expect but the caramel is essentially missing. The big problem is the standard issue of texture that plagues so many of the baked gf goods; the fun sized bites are grainy. I like the size and the crunch, but can’t overlook the obvious. I haven’t tried other varieties from this brand, they may be better, but I’m unlikely to even give them a try. It was a gluten free fail in my book.
